Kate focuses her practice on complex civil litigation and appeals. She has successfully represented clients at all stages of litigation, from trial through appeals, in courts, in arbitrations and mediations, as well as before administrative tribunals. Kate is highly experienced and skilled at drafting and arguing motions for summary judgment, preserving appellate error during trial, drafting jury charges and post-trial motions, and preparing appellate briefs for parties and amicus organizations.

Before joining Schiffer Odom Hicks & Johnson, Kate served as a law clerk to two federal judges, the Honorable Ewing Werlein, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas and Chief Magistrate Judge Gerrilyn G. Brill of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. This experience provided Kate with insights into how judges think, enhancing her ability to prepare the most compelling arguments in court.

Upon graduating from law school, Kate spent seven years as a litigation associate with the law firm Vinson & Elkins LLP, where she represented clients in large-scale commercial lawsuits and appeals, including contract disputes, class action securities cases, international arbitrations, fraud and professional liability suits, and insurance coverage litigation. Prior to joining SOHJ, Kate also served as General Counsel to the Southeastern Legal Foundation, a public interest constitutional law firm based in Atlanta. In this capacity, Kate directed all litigation for the Foundation, and filed appellate and amicus curiae briefs with the Fifth, Eleventh, and Ninth United States Circuit Courts of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.

Kate has written numerous articles regarding developments in various substantive areas of the law that have been published in legal periodicals throughout the country.
